Hair Removal Procedures

All those sticky waxes and smelly creams, and the nicks, cuts and razor burn involved in hair removal can drive any sane woman or man mad! The search for a safe and permanent hair removal solution has been going on for decades, and thankfully, doctors, dermatologists and aestheticians have come up with a few long lasting and permanent methods to deal with unwanted body hair for men and women. In a culture where bare is better, men and women won’t dare to have unsightly hair. But waxing, sugaring, shaving and all other standard hair removal methods are only short term fixes to the problem of hairy humans.

Whether you’re a busy mom too active to spend time bleaching and shaving, or a metro-sexual man seeking to be rid of back hair for beach season, or if you’re an athlete seeking to literally shave off those last tenths of a second, what women and men alike seek is to remove hair from our faces, legs, back, chests and legs.

Some people choose to shock their hair out with electrolysis. This method of hair removal, which has actually been in existence for over 100 years, is considered the only truly permanent hair removal method. Using mild electrical current to kill the individual hair follicle on at a time can take up to three to five minutes per follicle. While electrolysis is permanent, it is a very, very slow process and requires numerous long treatments to remove hair from a small area. Electrolysis can be a time consuming but ultimately rewarding hair removal experience.

Other people opt to zap hair out with laser light. Laser hair removal is a growing trend which uses one of seven kinds of lasers to heat the hair follicle into submission. While some debate whether or not this method is completely permanent, it does provide a faster alternative to electrolysis, and for some, it beats the heck out of shaving, bleaching and tweezing. A newer alternative to the more aggressive electric and laser treatment is a newly approved skin cream called Vaniqa cream. An at home topical application over time offers reduced hair growth and easier maintenance using traditional methods.

Sadly, there is no quick fix for permanent hair removal, and most treatments require multiple treatment sessions. For those seeking complete hairlessness, there is no single “Hair today, gone tomorrow” solution. The search continues! And while the cost for these more permanent hair removal methods may seem high, the total cost is likely less than the cost of continuing the temporary hair removal methods. Consult a professional dermatologist, physician, or anesthetist in your area for specific fees charged. They weren’t kidding when they said, “you have to suffer to be beautiful.” Bear in mind that most hair removal procedures do involve some discomfort and skin reaction; make sure to research your options carefully and take the time for a thorough consultation with your doctor before undergoing any procedure.
